There is clearly an issue with the 9242 or its switch.? Don't fully understand why you would call it a day but hey, it's your choice.

Funny how your timeline changes as well, yesterday you had been a customer for 7 days, today its 14.....hmmmmm

I gave you some advice yesterday within 4 minutes of your post, even if you were not happy with the response from Express Vu, you have to admit that here on DHC you were given pointers pretty quickly.

I can confirm the audio droput issue is still there. It's not as bad as it was on most stations, but some are worse than others. CTV HD East seems the worst to me. I had similar issues on my 9200. I'll try recording some stuff and see if the dropout occurs consistently in the recording. Terminator should be a good one to try, it was happening a lot last week.

Speaking of recording shows, I just got my 9242 yesterday and tried the PVR and was disappointed to see that even though i recorded movies from HD channels, they got recorded in SD. It seems I may have read that there is a solution to that but I can't easily find it

Is it because I am recording from tuner 2 and I am in dual mode ? Manual does not say (or I have not found it) how to chose to record in HD or SD. I should be able to record in HD from either tuner as the mpeg stream being "tuned" is in HD for HD channels so why does the 9242 downconvert to SD ? (I am saying its SD because of the black bars on the sides of an HD recorded movie). It still says HD in the "my recordings" view on the event itself but when watching it , it looks just like an SD channel. Where is the setting for defaulting to HD recording from HD channels ? Thanks

I think you mis-read the blurb, it is a fully functioning Dual Tuner HD PVR, so there is no reason it would only record HD on 1 tuner.

It also has an OTA HD tuner so it is possible to record 2 shows in HD and watch a third HD OTA show.....

I use the 9200 and have been running DPP for a very long time and don't ever remember a jump to live or a audio skip.

The HD channels don't necesarily play HD material all the time. Your 9242 will playback whatever was recorded.

Usually, New primetime drama shows are HD, usually new movies and specials are HD. Usually high end sports are shot in HD.
Most reality TV is still SD and will remain that way for the forseeable future.

the 9242 put a stupid HD logo beside the channels that might-possibly, could-be, sometimes HD.

I've had my 9242 since Saturday and I'm noticing a lot of audio drops. It doesn't seem to be channel specific. I'm using the HDMI port. I haven't yet tested with component cables.

I cannot say with a 100% certainty but I do know that beleive it or not Refurbished 9242's were arriving in warehouses within 4 weeks of it's launch.

Most likely it will be a new unit, this early in the receivers life but you just never know.

I'm new to the forum. I had Bell ExVu installed on Dec 21. I have a 9242 in our family room. It's connected w/HDMI to my Pioneer Elite 92 series A/V rcvr and our 60" Kuro TV. I had smart card issues [015/122/394 error codes] w/the 9242 and went through countless hours on the phone w/Bell techs to no avail. The unit was deemed defective by Dec 24th. While waiting for the replacement 9242, I used my non-HD Bell rcvr from downstairs w/components on the side of the Kuro and analog audio - sat worked fine but with compromised quality/aesthetics (my HDMI is run behind the wall from the Elite receiver).
I rcvd the replacement 9242 on Jan 10, reinstalled it w/HDMI and had it activated. No smart card issues but I've had persistent video problems. The A/V connections are fine and my sat signal is also in the 80's. However, I often get a black screen, occasionally get a frozen video screen, and more rarely get jumbled pixels. When I reboot the video is fine for some time, but when I change channels the problem recurs, usually with a black screen. I have a tech coming in around TEN DAYS but I'm curious as to whether this is a common problem w/the 9242? I am hoping this is not an HDMI issue. The rest of my system is working fine [ie. my HDDVD HDMI connection has no audio or video problems]. Any input/suggestions is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

I got my 9242 PVR last week with my new TV. The installer finished everything then plugged in the HDMI and got no sound or picture on any of the HDMI inputs. He tried the DVI adapter with the same results. He tried another HDMI cable with the same results.

I phoned Bell and was told that this is a known issue with these models and there should be a fix soon. Has anyone else had this issue? I was told by the Bell op in her Indianglish that it will be resolved in a couple of days.

TIA.

Slow channel changes appear to be a problem with all the 92xxx receivers. Do not think it is a DPP problem.

Has anyone determined how to present recorded shows in a 'folder view', as opposed to the other various sort methods available ? Would like to select the show and then see episodes... possible ?

Greg.

I bought the receiver at FS 3 days ago, am I able to exchange it there for a new one or do i have to contact Bell.

New subscriber here...I too am reasonably pleased with the 9242 PVRs that I purchased.

I do not see the flicker and sound loss that Matt described (I am using the HDMI cables and set both TVs at '1080i')

I really like the TV2 out feature, which I have linked to my old cable infrastructure in the house, which lets me watch any 2 of 5 old-school TVs (3 tube TVs and 2 PC tuners) by way of cable splitters, while the plasmas are also running...with no need for any additional receivers.

My one minor concern about the 9242, which I could not reference in the manual, is the output audio levels.
I pass-through the audio from TV to the Stereo system, and I find that the audio level is very high from the PVR....so much so that I have to have the volume knob of my stereo at almost zero...the tiniest volume adjustment on the stereo increases the output dramatically.
It would be nice to scale back the audio level from the PVR so that I could use my volume control more precisely.
Anyone else notice this?

Hi,

I also purchased the 9242 this week and am very happy with the receiver. The shop I bought it from did the install (needed a new dish even though I have HD– it’s a long story…), and I had been waiting for the new receivers to come out.

I find none of the problems mentioned in comments in the forum, specifically:
1. The noise is less than the old 5800 I used to have, but it is louder than a 6100 (which makes almost no noise). We have the unit in a bedroom, it is fine, less than a computer hard drive…
2. I am using just HDMI for the TV1 and the installer also hooked up Composite, presumably for the other feed (which I am not sure I have to have – is this necessary to record while watching something else? He put the thing in dual mode, as most people do a second feed – I switched it back to use Single as it is just this set I am feeding with the new receiver, and I wanted PIP and the ability to watch one thing while recording or playing another recorded program), and have seen no loss of sound sync so far.
3. I recorded Survivor last night while watching CSI in HD, both programs were watched without issue with sound or skipping (Survivor recorded in SD and I played it back after, and that is a question – can one record in HD while watching something else in HD???).
4. The channels change and do take a couple of seconds, but that is no different from the 6100, in fact the program guide switches FASTER on the 9242 than the 6100 (when you are searching for shows) – much faster! If you direct enter the channel you are switching to, I find it is just the same time as the 6100, about 4-5 seconds.

So, I am glad I bought the 9242, and look forward to using the PVR features which I used to have with the 5800, but now in HD for the main channel at least. I am glad that this forum exists, as the thoughts of others helped me decide how to set this all up.

ps - just answered my own question and recorded Equator in HD for a couple of minutes while watching Rush in HD - cool...Don't know what happened with Survivor last night - maybe I had it recording off a non-HD channel...

9242 installed and working very well. I'm coming from MythTV (worked great, but just can't handle Canadian HD recording from ExpressVu), and really miss the 'Folder view'. With many shows recorded, it would be nice to see a list of shows, select the desired title, and then see a list of episodes.

Is this possible, or perhaps planned ?

I have mine hooked up via component and just the audio in to the tv, I also have the toslink into my stereo so I can watch tv during the night with headphones. my 2 hdmi's are used up on my blu-ray and hd dvd players. I haven't seen any difference in quality between hdmi and component but haven't had it hooked up for more the a couple minutes as far as being able to check audio faults with the hdmi out.

I'll post my reciever info later when I get a chance to check the receiver.
