Expressions Of Fandom

I was looking around online and I’ve noticed that there are some people in the world who love an animated program so much that they would be willing to have characters from that animated program painted onto the side of their car. Personally, I think that it’s crazy to do such things, but it got me thinking; what’s the biggest thing that you’ve ever done in order to show that you were a fan of an animated program? Also, what’s the biggest thing that you’ve ever seen somebody else do in order to show that they were a fan of an animated program?

It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen “The Powerpuff Girls”, but I’m pretty sure the above character is one of the rowdyruff boys who appeared in several episodes throughout the series. I wasn’t even aware that the rowdyruff boys had any fans, but apparently they do and some of them are quite dedicated.

This one took me by complete surprise. I thoroughly enjoy “Skunk Fu!”, but I can’t believe that there are people who love the series that much. They have Rabbit painted on one side and Skunk painted on the other side; I’m at a loss of words, but I admire their gravitas.

So, what have you done? What have you seen others do? This thread can cover a wide array of things; for example, if you’ve ever dressed up as a character when you attended a convention, you could post that in this thread.

Fan fiction.

Which I am certainly not attacking, by the way. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone (the characters don't count since they're not real), I say go for it.

I suppose that fan fiction is indeed a way to express one?s fandom, but that?s not really out-of-the-norm like the above example that I posted. Still, I appreciate the fact that you?ve participated in my thread.

I haven't done anything too extreme. I dressed up like Duke for ComicCon in 2006 since I love G.I. Joe. And when I got my first car in 1996, I bought Marvin the Martian floor mats. (The car is since gone, but I've hung onto the mats for if I ever get another vehicle to put them in.)

In high school I had a sweater with Bugs and Duffy on it, which I wore often because I used to always get comments on it from the girls in my class, which was nice. :D Nowadays I also have several different Mickey Mouse shirts that I wear proudly, which I got because my mom works at The Disney Store.

And I've also written fan-fiction, though not for any animated properties.

At one point in the mid-90s, I had a "Simpsons" fansite---which was apparently good enough (or unique enough) to get listed for a time in the alt.tv.simpsons FAQ list. (Also how I taught myself HTML...)

In the early days of this forum (when it was merely the "Warner Bros. Club"/the early TZ years), I used to write/help write fanfics featuring the Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain casts of characters.

Other than that, that's about the extent of such fan-ness. No tattoos, cars painted, or any such over-the-top thing...

Where I used to live, there was a guy who owned a replica of The Mystery Machine, and the horn would say "ZOINKS!" when you pushed it ;)

As for myself, I haven't really done anything you'd consider EXTREME. I write fanfiction and occasionally create webpages for my most favorites.

My biggest expression of fandom is working here on the forums and for the News in my free time :D. For that, I do sometimes watch cartoon DVDs on the train ride home, which occasionally draws attention. I still wonder what that middle-aged Indian woman was thinking that time she watched Samurai Horror Tales over my shoulder when she thought I didn't notice, and there was another time I heard one college kid saying to his friends, "That guy's watching Futurama over there."

Other than that, I have Looney Tunes and Peanuts neckties that my wife forbids me to wear at formal occasions, but which I wear to work fairly regularly. I also have a few cartoon-related T-shirts for my downtime. The ones I can remember now are one for Hellboy Animated (which I scored at New York Comic Con 2 years ago) and one for the Osamu Tezuka exhibit at the SF Asian Art Museum.

So far the most common Expressions of Fandom I know are:

Fanfiction
Fanart
Fancomics
Cosplay(Which means you dress up as your favorite anime/video game character)

I myself have been know to do some fanart of some of my favorite cartoons/anime/comics. I've done a little fanfiction though I'm a terrible writer. I want to do a fancomic but I'm putting all my drawing energy into doing an original comic for publication instead. But I wouldn't cosplay since I usually don't like playing "dress-up" and I don't like to make my own costume.

Four little words: Berserk the Abridged Series.

(-:

I've also been known to do a little cosplaying in my time, but those have been video game related, not animation-related.

I haven't done anything that extreme to express my fandom. I did was write a fanfic for Pokemon a couple of years ago, but I couldn't finish it because of my school work even though most people really did like it. I just remember one expression of fandom that actually took me a couple of years to do: I dressed up as Snoopy for Halloween one year. I must have been around eight or nine, but I wanted to dress up as Snoopy and after trying to find a costume for ages, I finally found one and wore it one year to go trick-or-treating. That was pretty fun. Of course, this was when I could feel comfortable with wearing costumes and now I'm far too nervous to do that. I still remember enjoying that Halloween night and I still have that costume somewhere in my room.

How would you classify buying all the figures for a show you don't even like? I buy Transformers Animated figures even though I don't like the show, mainly because they're pretty nice.

But other than that, I've made a few AMVs about shows I like. Nothing flashy, I was just bored one day and made a few.

Fanfiction.I have over 80 fanfics over the course of four years at FF.net and I've drawn a little at Devianart.Along the way I've discovered that I love to read and write so fanfiction has actually helped me to enjoy something that I might not have otherwise.

I tend to stick to articles of clothing, posters and figurines. I've done some fan art as well, but haven't had the time over the last couple of months to do nearly as much as I would have liked.

Although the RowdyRuff van was hilarious. My friend's dad had the same Opel van and the sight of one brought back some good memories.

I used to do some fan art on Lark Tanner, Bianca Dupree and my fave, Tara Belle, I once did my own calendar for 95 and for the month of Febuary, I had a scene the depicted Chester McTech getting chased by Tara, who was getting chased by Jillian Thorndyke III

It was probably one of my last works of fan related art but I carved a Vaughn Bode lizard into some weird orange sand. I hardly ever draw other peoples stuff now, I stick to my own works.

I have came up with some fanfiction but since I have a hard time getting my thoughts on paper it just stays up in my head. Since I am not a good artist what-so-ever I have hardly any fan art that I made over the age of eight. The only thing semi-extreme is one time I went to a ceramics shop and painted a picture of the KND on some tiles. See:
