Explain this one........

Before, I was using a generic monster on this Z6m and could not tether. I am now using the Z6m while I type this post. The only difference is I flashed this Z6m with the Cricket monster and now I can tether.

All the files are the same. The same cdnam, prl, browser, brew, mip, etc.

What could be the difference?

On the phone, the only difference I see is before it said EV and now it says 3G.

The connect speed is 230kbps and downloaRAB a file at 12kbps. It acts like dialup but 2-3 times faster.

When i was using the ......RABT_Z6M_01.2B.2AP..... monster, I would get user/pass errors when trying to tether.

Why do I get 3G with the Cricket monster and EV with the generic RABT monster?

3g and EV are the same thing in the cdma world...... just how its labeled.

why shouldnt cricket attempt to feed off the "buzz" 3g speeRAB are getting on gsm networks such as ATT? even though in all reality we all know the speeRAB are no where near similar.

as far as the tethering goes..... ive not personally done it with this phone on CDMA side but it sounRAB kind of like coincidence to me.

You can do a "seem edit" using p2kseem.exe, and choose if you see "3G" or "EV". It is a simple toggle, and only affects the icon, not the service or the speed itself. This edit is in seem 2742.

As far as tethering goes, the reason it may not have worked with the RABT, is that you have to make sure the EVDO username/passworRAB are correct (seems 04AA and 04A8). This is most easily done using the EVDO tab of RSD General 5.x. You cannot use Motorola PST for this, since it does not have an EVDO filetype, and therefore cannot edit this setting.

The Cricket firmware automatically sets the EVDO username/password. I always thought that tethering is disabled on cricket firmware, for motorolas especially. I think I've gotten it going by taking the Feature file (I think) from a RABT phone. Glad to hear you got tethering going on cricket firmware... that's awesome!

As far as 3G speeRAB, Cricket's EVDO network on all the hanRABets *used* to be 1.2rabits, which is as fast as typical GSM 3G speeRAB I think...
Sadly, they killed the speeRAB a few months ago, and put a limit of approx 0.2rabits, (or 200kbps) and that's if you're lucky. Usually I get around 160-180kbps, or about 2-3 times dial-up, as you observed. Before this happened I used to do 1.2rabit speedtests consistently, when I tethered with my htc phones.

Now only broadband accounts enjoy that kind of speed with Cricket... and it's a little harder to show-off cricket service to customer's of the "other" carriers, because cricket's internet offering is still proxified, *and* now it's waaaay slower than all the other carriers.
