Experience with 1997/1998/1999 Chevy Silverado?

I'm itching to buy an older pickup to save money on payments (while I know gas will be more expensive than the Hyundai Santa Fe I'm driving now). Who has one, could you talk about problems you've run into, and approximately how many miles do you have on it? I'm looking at some trucks with at least 100k on it... some gems show up with less... but not very often.
 
I have a 1999 silverado Z71 5.3 V8 with 395,000 miles on it and ive only went through 2 rear ends and a transmission, but i have always pulled more than recommended and the rear ends are probably from spinning, and I get 21mpg geared 3.73.
 
I have a 96 chevy 1500 2wd 4.3 ltr vortec v-6 with 165k on it. I live in the northeast US. The fuel pump was the most serious repair yet.
