Hi all,

One of my friend's Mum has breast cancer and we are doing a charity bike ride as a class to raise money for his Mum and a cancer charity. All the school is going to watch us do it on the field and I can't ride a bike, I have told him but he didn't listen - this is really personal and I really don't want to show myself up in front of hundreds of classmates.

HELP!

Believe it or not, it is easier to learn to ride a bike when you are older so don't despair! Talk to a close friend that has a bike, go to a park or wide open space (parking lot maybe), and learn there. Start out by adjusting the seat low enough that when you sit on it, your feet are flat on the ground. While sitting on the bike push yourself along (sort of walking it as you're going) to get used to the feel of the bike. When you get a bit of momentum, lift your feet off the ground for just a second or so & try and keep the bike upright. If you start to fall, put your feet down and start again. Eventually you'll see that you can keep it upright while you're feet are up off the ground. At that point, you can start pedaling a bit. It really won't be long before you are a bike riding pro - just DON'T give up and DON'T freak out...it's a lot easier than it appears in the beginning! go for it - it's for a good cause!! good luck!!
