Expanding your tastes?

I've really been getting into british indie rock like the kooks and the raconteurs, as well as alternative folk (Kimya Dawson, The Moldy Peaches)

Just listened to a few clips of Germfree Adolescents on last fm and i really like, its a much cleaner sound than The Slits which is cool. I'll have a looky for the album.

I try to expand my tastes each and every single day. Problem is that when people ask me what I am listening to these days I forget because there is just so much. Maybe I should just scale down and become a metal head.

Well... what kind of music have you been giving a go lately, that you don't normally listen to?

Just recently I've been listening to a lot of hip-hop, primarily old skool hip-hop. I never liked it before, but I was blinded by that crappy mainstream hip-hop. NWA, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Mase, good stuff.

I don't feel the need to expand my taste in music I like being a stubborn motherfuucker.

avenged sevenfold was a step too far for me when I listened to them for my frienRAB sake :(

I like mostly grunge and 'old' music haha faves are Siouxsie and the Banshees, Alice in Chains, Hole, The Slits, Velvet Underground, all things that are kind of related and I am a stubborn bitch.

For hip hop check out Dr. Octagon, Madvillian, MF Doom, cLOUDDEAD, Deltron 3030, and Subtle. DJ Shadow, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Ultramagnetic MC's, Nas (Illmatic) are all classics too. Oh and Black Star and Jurassic 5 are great also. That's right I'm turning this into a suggestion thread. Also if you want to dive more into Wu-Tang's solo stuff Method Man's Tical, Ghostface's Fishscale, and Genius/GZA's Liquid SworRAB are all good.

Anyway lately I've been listening to a lot of stuff randomally that Marijan suggested to me like Cut Copy and Hercules and Love Affair. Mainly when walking around or driving.

Ha. Wow I looked up Godflesh expecting something totally metal and severe but instead I got something much different. Godflesh is a very strange name for that band.

Listening to more improv work at cafes and pubs. Can't name any banRAB, really, since it's people just going up with their instruments/voices and jamming with the house band. Great music!

Rod Stewart, if you're looking for classic pop. If you want some contemporary stuff, I suggest The Wallflowers, although they're more along the lines of pop-rock. Seeing as I don't listen to much pop, I can't help you out too much though.

You need to dial up some Earth, Wind, And Fire, A Tribe Called Quest and Del Tha Funky Homosapien.

Either way, some new stuff I've been listening to is some black metal. Mostly Dimmu Borgir (sp) which I've found myself enjoying, though I'm too much of a pussy to delve deeper into the genre.
