Expand your horizon

I would try opera from the classical period, particularly Mozart. You said you were looking for more relaxing, less intense stuff so I would not really look into Romantic opera like Wagner, which tenRAB to be very dramatic and intense. Check out Mozart's comedies, for example you could start with one of his most well known, Don Giovanni.

yeah, Gravity Slips mentioned them in the SST thread i started. that song was pretty intriguing (from the album of same name, right?), i'll give them a go.

btw Urban you wouldn't happen to have any bootlegs from that era? obviously there's a few that i've already seen live but it would be killer to hear someone like Minutemen at the height of their popularity.

Heh. Thanks for the suggestions but I actually already own an El Gran Silencio album (it's a pretty good album but the accordion does get old after a while) as well as that "Roots of Chicha" disc. Based on what I've heard I think curabias are really different depending what their country of origin is and I think the type of curabia I'm looking for is specifically Mexican. As far as the other style of Mexican music I'm looking for goes (the style with the yodeling and fiddle), you may be one of the few people on here familiar with the one good example of it that I know by name. Do you have the Cafe Tacuba album Avalanche de Exitos? If you do, the song "Ojala Que Llueva Cafe" is the exact style of music I'm looking for.

Incidentally, I just saw a production of Don Giovanni on Thursday. I don't think it's a "gentle" opera, but there's a lot of variety in the mood throughout. Some of it is pleasantly light and melodic but there are dark, powerful moments as well (especially the Commendatore scene). It's definitely worth checking out in any case.

Is there a genre of music that you really want to explore but don't know where to start? This is the thread for requests and recommendations whereby you post a genre and someone with knowledge in that area big up's an album and sorts out a link too. Why? It's boring narrow minded :D So get cracking. I am personally looking for some gentle Opera as it's one of the few genres unexplored by myself. We can include sub genres here no problems. Also post your thoughts when you have listened to the recommended album. Anyone with less than 50 posts will be excluded from this as our regular recommendation thread should suffice.

Janzoon I would also recommend Rodgrio y Gabriela, they do flamenco style music that seriously makes me hard.

Yes that is Orion, the Metallica song.

I would appreciate a point in the direction of some low-fi delta blues, and maybe some more revolutionary hip hop in the vein of Immortal Technique. And maybe some decent early hardcore/punk acts.

I'm looking for some straight-up from Africa, low-tech, beat-on-drum great music. I don't know what to expect, I mean I've never listened to African stuff... but I really want to spin a great African made album.

Also this thread was amazing and I don't know why it stopped.

Hey thanks for the effort but not really what im looking for. The quote you posted from me was a little misleading, and I apologize. I had posted earlier in the thread with a better explanation of what I was seeking.

Mainly i'm looking for good Blues Rock/Electric Blues artists along the lines of Joe Bonamossa etc.

Also, Newer (90's-2000's) Jazz/Smooth jazz with a good bass driven sound. Looking for stuff with good fretless play, or something with a solid rhythm section in general.
