I have a friend who says he has exercise induced asthma. I know this is a real condition, but does anyone think that being out of shape could play a part? As a result of having exercise induced asthma, he never even walks up stairs, .... always takes the elevator. He has never exercised a single moment in his life. He doesn't even walk much. As a result of this, it is only natural for him to be in very very bad shape. I know he has exercise induced asthma, but couldn't just being in really really bad shape play a part? I mean, come on,,, Not being able to run 6 miles is one thing, but not being able to walk up steps? Isn't that just a case of being really out of shape? It just annoys me because it seems as if the whole exercised induced asthma issue just gives people the excuse to be even more sedentary and not exercise, and when they get so out of shape they can't even walk up steps, the asthma is the scapegoat.
I'm extremely sorry if this offends anyone who has exercised induced asthma. I'm not trying to talk trash. I'll i'm really trying to do is ask this: When someone is diagnosed with exercise induced asthma, they avoid exercise for good reasons. But some people, like my friend, may take it too far and avoid any sort of physical activity such as walking up steps. He goes his entire life like this, without physical effort. As a result of the many many years of a very sedentary life, he becomes extremely out of shape. He gets out of breath when walking up steps, etc. taking all this into consideration, the questions are....
1) couldn't being very out of shape at least play a part in this?
2) Isn't encouraging people with exercise induced asthma to not exercise just making the problem worse, because doing this causes two problems to be at issue, one being their asthma, the second being them being extremely out of shape? (I don't know if people are encouraged to not exercise, but my friend is encouraged to not exercise, which I think just enhances the problem in the long term)
It just seems to me that people with exercise induced asthma are encouraged to stay in a cycle that just makes things worse.
If my "ignorance" offends anyone, I'm sorry. But if it offends you, just educate me, because I seriously don't know and all I'm doing is asking because I want to learn more.
