Exchanging phones for free?

I bought an LG VX8700 8 months ago from Verizon. I have the 2 year contract, but no warranty. I just bought a used Acura. It's Bluetooth won't pair with the LG's bluetooth. I spoke to the dealer. They checked their website and it says the 8700 is "incompatible" with the TL's made in 2005.

I mostly use the phone in the car. I was stupid for not checking the compatibility 1st. On the other hand, there are a lot of Verizon phones that work with my car. I was thinking getting the LG VX5500, which is a comparable -- probably more basic -- phone.

Will Verison let me swap phones for free or close to it? Thank you.

Not if you are in the middle of your contract. Best bet would be try to find one on here for sale, or hit up ebay.

So if I can find a phone -- on ebay or here -- that I like and works with the bluetooth sytem in my car, Verizon will let me switch to that phone without penalty? If so, I would obviously need to tell Verizon what I'm doing? Correct? Thanks.

Yeah. All you have to do to switch is either dial *228 from the phone you are wanting to switch to & pick option 3, then follow the prompts. Or you can log into your My Verizon account and use the online swap tool.

If neither of those works, call VZW CS from a landline and have them do the swap. Just make sure both phones are powered off while you, or them, do the swap so the system doesn't throw an error. Just make sure if you call CS to have them do it, tell them you tried the the other 2 options first. they have been known to charge you for doing an ESN swap if you call in. If you tell em you tried the other way first, they shouldn't charge you for it. Hope this helps !!!
