Exactly what parts do I need for my 97 Pontiac Grand Prix?

First off, my car's fan system only works on the highest setting. My mechanic told me that I need a Blower Motor Resistor, which would cost about $170 with labor. Also, he said I need two tie rods, which would come out to almost $500 with labor. I really want to get someone else to do it, but I need to know what parts to buy at Autozone, for example. I think I have the info on the resistor, but I'd still like to make sure it's right. For tie rods, I found a few different types, including "ends," but I need to know exactly what I need for my car. And finally, is my mechanic overcharging me, or is that actually a fair price?
In all, I have 3 questions...

1) Exactly what part do I need for my vehicle type in regards to the blower motor resistor?

2) Exactly what part do I need for my vehicle type in regards to the tie rods (are tie rod ends the same thing)?

3) Am I getting screwed?
 
That is absolutely ridiculous for 2 tie rod ends. If he is charging you that much he is obviously screwing you for the resistor also. Go some where else.
 
Depending on where you are, it may be a fair price, it doesn't sound to unreasonable. Check around for a second or third opinion, many repair shops offer free estimates. Good luck with it.
