Exactly how many quarts dose a Chevy 250 straight six take?

I have a Chevy 250 straight six from a 69 Nova in my old Chevy. It a pears they welded about an inch on the oil dip stick tube. So i don't know if the reading i get on the dip sick is accurate. I want to change the oil and the oil filter. How many quarts should i put in exactly?
 
for a 1969 nova with the 250cid strait 6 the correct engine oil capacity is exactly 5 quarts with a new filter or 4 quarts if you don't change the filter
