to terrorist trials? Only 3 men have been convicted by military commission since President Bush signed a November 2001 executive order establishing commissions, al-Bahlul is the only man to have received a sentence longer than 9 months. He is serving a life sentence. The other two, David Hicks and Salim Ahmed Hamdan (Osama bin Laden's driver), were sentenced to nine months and five months, respectively, after time served both are now free.

That means out of 20 trials only 1 person is currently serving time.

In theory they would allow us to torture people and use coerced confessions to sentence people to death. The Supreme Court screwed that plan up for the Bush Administration when they ruled that this would be unconstitutional. Every other developed country treats terrorism as a criminal matter and their systems work just fine.
