Ex is at boot camp, help! (Kinda Long)?

Dated almost 5 years and we where very close and in love, he left memorial day cuz apparently he was not in love anymore. Knew he might have joined the air force, i was supportive, but he didnt make the final choice till after the breakup, and my friend whom he says he is interested in, is also going but decided few months before the break up, and she is not interested in dating him.

He left for boot camp last tues, last sun i last saw him in person and told him basicly everything and i prolly sounded too needy and desparete but i was kind of drunk at the time also so that is part of why it prolly came off that way but i am still in love with him. He looked like he was going to cry, but just kissed my forehead which he did on one of our 1st dates and said 'promise me something, write to me while im gone'. I was planning to, but wasent sure if he wanted me, an ex who still has feelings for him, to write to him. He also said that will miss me, but after he told my friend he was completely over me and he wants me to have a rebound guy other then another serious relationship, but since the breakup he has been acting weird like showing interest but not wanting to admit it i guess.

This is both of our 1st relationships, but lasted almost 5 years, we're both 23 now but im about 3 months older. I am wondering what i should write to him, since i prolly shouldent tell him how much i love and want things to work out, but its prolly ok to tell him i miss him, but other then 'how are things going' im not sure what to say. He wants me to send him pictures, but he asked others to do that as well. Will he miss me? Think of me? I am also afraid of him completely changing (For the worst) after boot camp, and how long is tech school?
 
popeye is a joke. he is one of those people that think af basic training is a joke. too bad the only other basic training that is considered more strenuous is the marines. go look it up. after the af changes its whole program and extended it, the army is a joke. they dont even yell anymore. wuit trying to act tough faggot. anyways. basically he is going to miss you alot. once you get to basic, your out of your comfort zone, ebrything is ripped from you, and they really destroy you. you feel like shit and are probably regretting what you did. but thats only for the first 2 3 weeks. after that you actually start to enjoy basic cause you get to do some awesome stuff like shoot the m16 m9 gas chamber warrior week and all kinds of stuff. but he will miss you. but a relationship is not going to work, you got your seperate lives. you can def write him and ask him how everythings going and all that. he prob wont answer for abput 2 3 weeks, you are too busy and your time is based on your flights actions and perfromance. but i think you need to realize this relationship isnt going to work. but you can write a letter as a friend. be there for him. but he is doing this for himself. so dont tryi to write letters and sound all rediculous and stuff. he doesnt need that
