EW's Top 20 Animated Films

You are a minority on this one. However, I agree with you so I am one too.

But Sky Crawlers and Patlabor 2 are better than either of them. And Beautiful Dreamer is Oshii's best film.

Anyway, as for the "list" well obviously everyone has an opinion. I happen to disagree with it though. Wall E and Up are lower on my list, 101 Dalmatians makes my top 20 list, and Lion King is way, way too high. So is Persepolis. Also, not mentioning Miyazaki's best film (Totoro) is a big no no. And no Grave of the Fireflies is almost blasphemy, and I'm not even a big fan of the film.

This list is more like the "Most well known animated films of all time." Which isn't the same thing.

GITS may have been 90 minutes but it felt like 5 hours of lecturing. At least Innocence had the decency to throw in some humanistic scenes now and again (like Batou in his apartment and Batou going to the store). As for a "weak blend of animation styles" in Sky Crawlers, well, I find SC's obvious use of CG in the dogfights much more watchable than the constant green CG in GITS. If Sky Crawlers is like a poor man's Antonioni (which I like), GITS is more like all the bad sci-fi scenes in Wong Kar Wai's 2046.

Yes i imagine i've missed out on a lot of important films... But then again i also haven't played a lot of commonly played video games... i never learnt to swim or ride a bike... you could say i'm an allround insane weirdo. Besides me and cgi never got along... I can barely name a handful of 3d animated shows/movies i have ever liked the animation style of... I was always a 2D chap myself, and the older cel animated features tend to be overly morally based for my rational consumption

Chicken Run? Really? I mean, sure, it was good, but one of the best ever? I dunno.

Also, Lilo and Stitch is conspicuously absent from this list. I maintain that it's not just Disney's best animated movie of the 2000s, but Disney's best movie of the 2000s, period.

I've never heard of about 1/4 of the movies on this list. Where's the action movies: Transformers:The Movie(1986), Batman:Mask Of The Phantasm, or TMNT(2007)???? They would've definitely been in my top 10.

If Kill Bill, No Country For Old Men, and Spirited Away (released by Disney) count as Disney films, pretty damn high.;)

Innocence had some good scenes like the ones you mentioned but as far as the meat of the story goes it takes every flaw with the original GITS and cubes it while throwing in some additional problems. Yeah, the CG in the original GITS was pretty bad, but it was mostly just used for computer screens and such. The backgrounds and the character animation were great. Sky Crawlers had beautiful background design but the character designs were oddly flat and the movement too stiff.
