everytime i select colors > levels GIMP crashes on me, gimp is a photo editor

I use gimp too, so i'll try to help. It may be that you have too many things on your computer. Try deleting some unwanted programs. Not documents, they don't actually make a huge difference. And see if it helps. If it doesn't, uninstall gimp and redownload it. :)
 
I had a similar problem when I tried using paths. But that was after I had assigned my own shortcuts to several tools. Maybe reset to defaults and see if this helps. Otherwise a reinstall might be in order.
