Everyone talks about Carter, Clinton, both Bushes, Reagan, but what about Ford?

Ford was a 'caretaker president.' He had not been elected to either the Presidency nor the Vice Presidency and was selected by Congress because fewer people objected to him than they did the alternatives.

As a result he had no mandate and had inherited a damaged Presidency. This meant that he had very little real political power.

The result is that he is remembered more because he did not really screw anything up more than any great achievements.

He was never elected, so people don't have as much of a stake in talking about him as those other people.

He was a great president but he pardoned Nixon, which made a lot of people unhappy. I think pardoning Nixon was OK because what would have been the point about publicly humiliating an ex-President for years and years, especially back then? That's why he lost his run against Carter.

He was a great President, and if things got boring he would go to a charity golf tournament and bean some spectator with a golf ball. Hilarity ensued.

I am not sure if great can be said for him because his administration was a result of President Nixon resigning. Reagan was great out of that bunch. He gave the country a belief in itself once again.

While President Ford was a great and honorable man, he will forever be known as the man who pardoned President Nixon.

He had very good reasons for doing so, and I agreed with him.

Oh and he encouraged everybody to ear these silly little red, white and blue buttons that said WIN.

That stood for Wip Inflation Now.

They did not work.
