everyone keep telling me being a cook is like the worst job in the army is that true?

Everyone keeps telling that being a cook is one of the worst jobs in the army, im not someone whose afraid of the army I joined for the excitement, experience, travel and education, but i don't want to be stuck doing something everyday that i hate. I also heard its a good way to save money is any of this true?

The cooks are generally under-appreciated and overworked.

They are ignored if the food is good and bitterly criticized if the food is not to the soldier's liking. They have to get up before the rest of the troops to start preparing breakfast - and frequently work late in the evening serving and cleaning up after the evening meal.

As a First Sergeant I always did everything I could to take care of my cooks because of all this.

At least you'll actually know how to cook things. I can only make a few things a thats it. Mostly ramen and spaghetti. Dont let anyone make you feel bad for the job you have. Just do the best you can.

I'm going to be honest...I've had to pull KP (basically assisting the cooks for a meal) and I was never more proud and relieved to be an MP in my life.

Honest opinion. Everyone is different.
