I just got back from a 2 day vacation and my entire fish tank was dead. Before I left I fed them and every fish was acting normal. The PH was good, the temp good, Everything was good. When I came back Everything was dead. Some half eaten, all cloudy eyes, some seemed hollow. Looks like they have been dead for a day or two and I am stumped. Some of the fish I have had for years and no new fish were introduced or recent water changes. No new changes in diet and no new chemicals added. Please help.
I had a silver scat, a ruby scat, a green scat, 2 tiger Monos, a Large high fin pleco, a panda catfish and 2 other small catfish, a tiger barb and a red eyed tetra. All dead in 2 days and decaying in the water. And yes they can decay that fast. I have had a fish alive in the mornign and find them dead and decaying by the time I returned from work
Im with you on getting the water tested but its weird....They seemed hollow inside. Is there a parasite or a bug that could possibly do that?
30 gallon tank. Tank had a fluval canister filter made for a 75 gallon so the water quality stays a little longer. I was doin the 25%weekly and the fish kept going into shock so I did it once a month. Its was about 2 weeks in.

I'd take a sample of your water to a local pet store, they'll run a check (usually for free) for all chemical imbalances.

I feel for you, broke the heater in my tank last week and electrocuted my fish, good luck with your restocking :)

That cannot happen like you describe. unless you write stories like CSI and it involves small fish. OR? you or someone would have to have introduced a puffer or turtle or something. even if all your fish had died naturally they would not have been that decayed in the two days you say. That's my opinion! i'm stumped as well unless you give us the correct details.

pH tests are next to useless.... what you need to test for is ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. the pet store will do these for free.

you say no recent water changes? you should be doing 25% once a week.

we need more info:
what size tank?
how many fish and what kind were they?
how long was your vacation?

you have all those in a 30gallon tank and you wonder why they died... have you done any research on keeping fish?
