Ever have a film you didn't want to like, but when you saw it, you did?

One that springs to mind for me was Donnie Darko.

Mainly because I was sick of hearing teenagers crap on about about it was "like, so, like deep and stuff".

So, I guess I had preconcieved notions about it but when I saw it I really enjoyed it.

I couldn't be bothered trying to get my head around the meaning of it and I don't think you're supposed to. I just enjoyed the general weirdness of the film and I found it really quite funny.

Has anyone else had the experience of expecting not to like a film but being pleasantly surprised?

I try to avoid sitting down to watch a film with any kind of specific expectations. I concede it's not fully possible in most cases but I do my best to ignore hype and, conversely, I try not to get 'talked into' disliking a film I haven't seen.

However there are genres which I don't normally get on too well with e.g. romance, musicals, comedy (especially of the crude teen variety). One film I recall that didn't look too promising was 'Amelie'...that was a really pleasant surprise. Another was 'Almost Famous'...which almost I didn't bother with....but I'm glad I did.

Hannah Montana: The Movie..I saw this the other day. So much hype surrounding Disney stars, really didn't want to like it. But i did...:o

Star Trek

Went with the gf to see this last Monday. Not being that much of a Star Trek fan i wasn't expecting much. How wrong i was.I thought it was a cracking film.

Definitely Slumdog Millionaire

Everyone was going insane over it, OMG IT'S SO GOOD etc etc and it was in the press constantly too

When i actually saw it, it was actually a great film but i think the "hype machine" went into overdrive lol

Still, i'd imagine it's done alot of great things for Bollywood

High School Musical. You're really not supposed to like it unless your under 14 but I think it's really good! The dances are great in the second two!! :o

I can't believe it of myself, but a few years ago I was determined not to watch Pirates Of The Caribbean. I was crazy - it's a quality film, one of my favourites.
