EVDO Speeds (Based on PRLs)

button they are sending the T1's to the node-b's over ATM IMA right? why wouldnt they just use 2 T1's? at at&t they launched 2 T1's per site across the nation.

To be real honest, I can only tell you what the Lucent side of the house is doing. And that is 1 T1 per evdo carrier. The Central Cali area is a Nortel MSC. I could ask them and find out how they implemented it.

The EVDO stuff is all packet switched. Really in my current MSC configuration Voice and EVDO are 2 worlRAB that are only interlinked in a couple of spots. When we go MLPPP and then IP backhaul and then Converged in Release 30, then things start to look more and more like what UMTS is like. Where you have a MLS and a router sending the info and the Site splits it out to EVDO and Voice. That is if I'm understanding you correctly.

Basically in UMTS it works like this. its not perfect but you get the idea. 3G handles EVERYTHING voice and data.

Yeah ours is RNC to Juniper router then out just the one T1 to the site. We havent launched MLPPP, and T1 and Voice Sharing isn't available till ECP Release 30. So we are running with just the 1 T1 to each, with the exception of the university sites. Our 5ESS/ECP complex isn't the newer soft switches like we have in the new markets, so some of our stuff is really different than anyone running a soft switch/media gateway type setup. Not to mention the Nortel/Huawei stuff is nearly identical in how it is broken up and implemented.

he's in modesto i believe. so yes... he should have a fast evdo connection.
the only CCV area that was having trouble AFAIK was one or two towers in south fresno that verizon said was going to take a year to bring in a T1 or whatever they needed. my sources are mixed on this because about a week after they told me it was going to be a year they said that all towers were up. irregardless he is nowhere near that area.

nice! so funny that no one knows what a soft switch is or a media gateway.

we had the lucent LCP/LSS with 2 shelves + telica media gateways, uMGW, pMGW, aMGW but i doubt they are called the same in CDMA. i loved working in unix every day. lots and lots of tricks that lucent never teaches you.

instead of juniper, lucent has been installing their "alcatel" 7670 atm router to handle the encapsulation on the T1 in most lucent sites now.

isnt the 5ESS EOL now? i know at AT&T they were getting rid of most of them because GSM and UMTS were either using nortel, ericsson, or the LSS.

my speeRAB are super fast...

i live in central houston and use 01050.prl...

i get 1.0-1.3rabps down and 380+kbps up...

is noone else getting these speeRAB???

i think it may slow after it is launched officially here...

i noticed a lot of latency when i first started getting EVDO a few months agao...

after a couple weeks, it smoothed out so much...

i hope the it doesn't go to **** when everyone is on it...

nah, RNC is the BSC of 3G. radio network controller. i know in UMTS the radio network is called UTRAN, which is umts terrestrial radio access network, but i don't see how that holRAB true for EVDO.

I get around 800k here in Dayton, Ohio, 1050 PRL, full bars. Typically 300k with two or less bars.

Still no EVDO in my market via OTASP....... :reallysad
