Dang, say what you will but everyone's gotta admit this thing looks freaking beautiful.
 
He was in the first movie so I can't see a reason why they'd cut him out now.

They did cut out the backstory about his sister in 1.0 although I expect that'll come to light later on in the series
 
No one can say that the gigantic budgets went to waste, certainly.

Personally, I wonder if they're going to keep Toji as the pilot that gets the Angel-infested Eva.
 
Wait, didn't Misato start out as a Captain? Does that mean that when Asuka is introduced she'll be equal in rank to Misato?


SounRAB like a poor decision to cut that, it would have taken all of five seconRAB to add some depth to his character. Though maybe you're right and they'll add it in later.
 
Her surname is still Langley. You almost never hear her second family name in the anime except when she introduces herself. So other than a reference to ships, it has no real effect on the plot.
 
Like I said, should we even care if Asuka got her last name changed, it's not like they changed her name to Ashley Elizabeth Stanfield
 
If they did, I missed it. I've only seen the TV show once. Very nice, but the pretentious fan base scared me off (seriously, overt, obnoxious fan gushing is a sore spot with me).
 
To be honest, the CG looks pretty bad for a theatrical feature. Almost approaching Gonzo level.

Anyways, I'm happy to see that Anno is still a nutcase. I was beginning to worry that Rebuild would just be a recap with new animation, but luckily for us we get more dicking around with the story. I'm counting on there being many cries of RUINED FOREVER.
 
It's more like Evangelion with an actual budget.

Some notes have pointed the end of Rebuild 1.0 was the original intent, but due to time cuts and budget it wasn't possible.

Also, no *@#&$ stupid Jet Alone.
 
NERV is a military, and Asuka is essentially a child soldier bred specifically for this purpose.

Actually, given how military EVA really is, it's more of a surprise Shinji doesn't have a rank. Even earlier shows like Gundam gave Amuro a rank and he was a civilian.
 
I think it would be worth discussing how they're going to fit so much material into 1 movie. The first movie fit the 1st 6 episodes quite well into 90 min, IMO, and trimmed a lot of the filler from ep 4.

First of all, Jet alone will be skipped. I`m sure eveyone knows this.

Next, Asuka's introduction, which could be handled one of two ways. First, it could go like the anime, and second, like the manga, which showed her defeating the sea angel alone, IIRC in a brief flasrabroadack.

Either way, I think it will be one or the other. The Twin angel or the sea angel as the first fight in the movie, not both.

Now, eps 10 and 11 are definite skips. simply no time for those 2 angels.

Ep 12, with the orbital angel, will probably be kept, but shortened. There's a bit of filler to trim out of that ep.

13 is a partial skip(skip the virus angel), and necessary elements of 13, 14, and 15 can probably fit into 1/2 Hour.

So far, IMO, this should be an hour of material at least.

Ep 16, IMO, the shadow angel will be replaced by the new clock angel in the trailers. The new Eva may also debut in this fight.

17, 18, and 19 simply have to be kept. Many of the events here will be changed to fit in the new EVAs.

even with all these concessions, there is very little room for all the new material shown at the end of the first trailer, and it's clocking in at 2:20 at LEAST.
