Briana Palencia as Rei? Doesn't she normally do like really high perky voices?

The original Shinji and Asuka voices returning are freaking FTW. (Has Spencer been in an FUNi dub before? I usually see him in ADV/Bandai stuff)

FUNi is keeping the references in Sgt. Frog! Yes, yes, yes this is the best news ever. (Guess they listened to the comments as usual ) HC shall be very happy.
 
yes...YES I didn`t expect Spike Spencer but he came through. I DID think Rei's actress to be here...but she didn't come through still cool and about SGT Frog....I think one of the first eps they should dub is the one with the Congratulations parody.
 
Sgt. Frog! I want it. I'm really interested to see how the dub ultimately works out. And that's without a doubt my next comedy title (the last being Kodocha at the start of the new year).
 
They gave Ayres an arguably bigger role as Kensuke, though (note the word ARGUABLY).

I'm glad they pulled through in getting Spencer back as Shinji, as it should be. The cast overall has been significantly FUNi-ized but they got the essentials back (including Allison Keith) except for Amanda Winn-Lee, and the new cast look to fit their roles quite well. Plus John Swasey voiced Gendo in the ADV director's cut dub and he was quite good IMO, so I'm glad they took a page from the director's cut dub as well.

Also considering that, as garfield15 put it once, Brina Palencia is the FUNimation princess and Colleen Clinkenbeard is the queen, their castings fit quite well . . .

When 2.0 gets licensed it'll be inevitable that they'll bring Tiffany Grant back for Asuka, considering Grant's actually done roles for FUNimation in the past.
 
QFT. I was worried that she wasn't going to reprise her role, so I'm really happy to see that she will be.

Good cast! I wasn't all that concerned with the return of most of the supporting characters to be honest; while most of them were serviceable, I think the new VAs will be good if not better. I'm a bit disappointed that Rei, Gendo, and even Ritsuko's original VAs didn't return, though (Ritsuko's VA kind of grew on me throughout the series' run, admittedly...).

I think Jerry Jewell will make a fine Kaworu...Greg Ayres was good in the Director's Cut episodes, but I actually would say Jewell is closer to Kaworu's original VA...who's name escapes me.
 
Uhh, ya know, the TZ News article on the front page has the same info, but whatever.

Good choices all in all. Have to say I think they did a good casting job.
 
Anyway, I hope Brina Palencia does her own thing for Rei and doesn't try to imitate Winn-Lee. I think out of the main cast for the original ADV dub Winn-Lee's Rei was the weakest link, she took the "emotionless" thing a little too far and sounded a bit too old, IMO.
 
Ironic that Greg Ayres is playing Kensuke now rather than Kaworu. But Jerry Jewel as Kaworu = OH HELL YEAH!

Also glad that Spike Spencer and Allison Keith are coming back. But I won't be completely happy until I hear confirmation of Tiffany Grant returning for the next one; I honestly cannot picture Asuka having any other voice at this point.
 
I just hope Spike is able to do the commentaries to the movies like he did with the Evangelion Platinum re-release. The whole world is better when he does a rant in Shinji's voice. Here's my proof: NSFW for a couple of curse worRAB.

It's good that Spike and Allison back in their original roles, because it would be awkward to hear the Funi regulars be Shinji and Misato. It's not to say that the Funi regulars would be bad - I'm reserving judgement until I actually hear them in action - but it would be initially awkward to hear someone other than Spike be Shinji.
 
The rant was more of an easter egg rather than a normal feature. And you know just 2 days ago I was wondering how any one else would sound doing Shinji...then this news of Spike returning happened I'm still surpised that Rei's actress didn't return seeing how she and Spike are frienRAB. I mean Mrs.Allison came back.....and she's a school teacher.
