Evanescence

I discovered them around 4 years ago...before the whole mainstream thing....ide have to agree with wyldchild on the earlier stuff...pitty you cant really get the rare stuff...like:Solitude,Exodus and missing is prolly one of my faves....i also like every somng of Origin lyrics for even in death are awesome...that definatly helped me through some times...and influenced my writing back then... i am a slight fan of their newer stuff...i kind of grew out of them a bit...Nightwish are my new evanescence..which is strange becuase nightwish went mainstream aswell with Once..which has the same artwork as evanescence's Ep...

They are OK. I liked Fallen, good album. But their latest release sucks.

Amy Lee is a good singer, although she tries too hard to sing like Tarja Turunen.

Actually, they never wanted to classified as anything except for just rock. They might come off as a goth metal band, but that's not their aim. Therefore, they are not 'wannabe gothic metal.'

I think that Evanescence is a pretty good band, actually. I don't care what they look like or how annoying their fanbase is. I'm actually very curious to see how Amy Lee and the band will do with their newer material after Ben Moody has left them to work with Avril Lavigne. Blech.

Music today is marketed, and it's being whored out to all the people who are so willing to accept mediocrity because it's easy. Most of the mainstream fans don't care for the musicianship, so long as, and I quote my dad and half my family, "It's got a good beat and I can understand the worRAB." Some banRAB take advantage of society's ignorance and play simple riRAB with pseudo-lyrics that people find "deep and intellectual" and make millions off of them.

SO if you're ever in a period of unemployment, gather 3 other guys who have partial experience with their instruments, write songs about wanting to kill yourself because your toaster burnt your past piece of toast, record it, and then send it to some big record conglomerate. Sure, you'll be selling your soul and every shred of dignity you have, but who cares? YOU'LL BE RICH!

Fallen was an amazing album, Origin was even better. Some of their unreleased stuff was insane as well.

The Open Door, however, was crap.

Amy Lee FOREVER!!!

You say that with such pride...
Amy Lee's voice doesn't fit the stuff she sings. Plus she can't sing live, the songs were ok at first, but over play killed it. I don't dislike them, but....seriously dude, your life?
