Rode my 1098 out to European Cycle Services in Middletown NY yesterday, (48 degrees) to get my suspension set up for my weight. They changed the rear spring, took the shock apart and changed some shims?, and adjusted the front. Amazing difference in the bike.
I would have liked to watch and learn about these changes, and could have, however as the owner of an auto repair shop, I was very interested in watching how this business is run. The owner is hands on and involved in everything going on in the place. Greeting customers, working on bikes, writing repair orders, loading bikes on customers trailers etc. Doing it all without a hint of frustration. No attitudes in the place. Owner and two techs work great togather. There was a Monster with a running problem and everyone chimed in with suggestions, ideas without missing a beat on the projects they were working on. The tech working on my bike wrapped painters tape around any part of the frame that a wrench, extension ect might rub against. The other tech was doing a major service on a very trick Foggy Monster. After running and set up, he went over the bike carefully, wiping away any grease, oil, fingerprints etc. All jobs were test ridden, adjusted if needed and ridden again. If all this wasn't enough, a guy pulls in with a Desmocidici on a trailer for his 800 mile service! Even his other customers were great. Every one of them introduced themselves, shook my hand and made conversation. It was like the twilight zone for me, as I'm from Bridgeport Ct. , where we'd just as soon shoot you as look at you. The customers hang out in the shop, wandering about as they please. It was like hanging out in a friends garage on a Saturday afternoon, except you had three expert techs working. This place is the cats a$$. I got exceptional service, a much improved bike, and although I learned little about my bike, I learned I have a bit of work to do on bringing my own business up to their standards.
