"Eureka seveN - good night, sleep tight, young lovers" Talkback (Spoilers)

Oh jeez, I loved this movie. Yes, it's a bit uneven, and few of the character changes are controversial, but it was a very interesting experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I loved the reactions of a few audience merabers to the ending, and the documentary after he film was really eye-opening as to what was going through the mind of the director when he was making the film.

Also, the new fights were awesome.

I'll give it this much: It was a helluvalot better than the movie versions of Escaflowne and RahXephon. This one was better because I went in knowing the fact that this was a complete reimagining.

The blooper reel was truly priceless.

Eureka: "Professor, you shouldn't be doing that in public".

God, it was so weird seeing Dominic and Anemone naked and being cradled in the black "hakyuu" thingie.

I don't think she was actually pregnant during the recording. From what I understood, I think she was speaking from the fact that she was already a mother, having understood what being pregnant was like after having her son, Beckett.

Well I'm happy that the people who saw it did like it. I was a huge fan (as shown in my avatar) of the romance between Eureka and Renton in the series, so with it being a feature point in the movie, I liked that. The ending was a bit sad as it did seem like Eureka sacrificed her mind, but I dunno if that's the case. Maybe her speech was sacrificed and she became mute, but maybe not her mind completely. I guess we won't know for a while though.

I liked the portrayal of Dominic and Anemone in the movie too. Yeah, I do believe it was the Type theEND that they were in. Was the black version of the Nirvash and all.

Hap and Stoner's portrayal was a little off for me too, but eh. I wasn't ever a huge fan of the characters anyway. I actually liked the chibified versions of theEND and Nirvash.

As far as the ending goes... yeah. That was my only downside. While it was a bit sad, they did get to be with one another at last. Also love the shot of Eureka in Renton's jacket. So cool. Sadly, I too couldn't follow the ending too well.

Wish I could have gone to the dub though. I would have loved to see the blooper reel.

Keep in mind that in addition to being different people due to their experiences, they were also mentally younger and less mature. Add in the fact that they were also incredibly desperate to find a solution to their rather tragic and frightening fates and it's understandable why they behaved like they did.

I enjoyed it. A bit different from the series, but not in a bad way.

As an aside, can anyone tell me what all of the anime were that were in the opening Bandai advertisement montage? I recognized most or maybe even all of them at the time, but afterward when my brother asked my about one of them, it turns out they had almost entirely slipped my mind.

Bonus points if you can point me to the video itself online.

Those were the first five that came to mind. I can't recall any others (there may have been some GITS, though).

So ANN has their review up. It's a pretty positive review, but the discussion in the forums are tearing the movie apart, with the main criticisms being poor structure and writing. Very striking contrast to the discussion here.

So GWOtaku, as essentially a newcomer to Eureka Seven, would you consider watching the TV series after seeing this movie? After reading some of the discussion on the ANN forums, I'm a bit worried that it might leave a negative impression if I show it to others as an introduction to the franchise. I'm asking you specifically because it seems like you're the only one here who hasn't seen most of the series.

I'm not GWOtaku, but here's my opinion--it would probably be a good idea to get them to watch the series first, to avoid any possible confusion.

Hap and Stoner were completely different characters in the original series as they were in the movie, for example.

This is making me want to collect the series now.

From what I can tell the positive aspects of the movie exist in the series as well, so I would watch it. As an introduction to others? Eh, I don't know. It didn't turn me off but the best course is probably to show the story that is most accessible and easy to understand.

Out of curiosity, what were your experiences like? Was it a large audience? Were people cheering? Etc.

For me, there couldn't have been more than twenty people in the audience. The theater itself was fairly large. But roughly less than 5% of the theater was filled, so I was kinda disappointed with the turnout. The audience only really reacted to the blooper reel/credits during the after-movie special.

The one majorly annoying thing for me was the projection system. For one thing, you could clearly see some burn in on the screen. It was distracting to see the faded Dish Network HD logo overlapping everything. Also, the screen wasn't as bright as I'd have liked.

In the future, I hope Fathom Events chooses better venues with more modern, up-to-date digital projectors.

Makes sense. I guess there's some plot points that the movie spoils too like
that Eureka is an alien and Talho is pregnant.

There were only six people including myself, but that's probably because it was in the middle-of-nowhere, Wisconsin. I don't think they sold another ticket that night aside from the Eureka Seven film. It was that dead.

I had no problem with my audience at all. They were silent for the most part, and chuckled at the amusing Renton and Eurkea moments (they loved the bloopers as well). From the conversations I overheard at the end of the movie, it seemed like everyone enjoyed the film. The only problem our theater had with the presentation was that the generic Fathom Events intro kept on skipping around for about five minutes. But other than that, we had no problems with the visuals or audio of the film itself. Definitely worth the $12.

*lolzubertopicrevival* It's okay for me to respond, right? Even though it's been months? I was looking for the NaT,HaT topic since Sci-Fi's starting it up again, but found this and read it, and since I loved this movie to death.....

My theatre experience apparently was a bit more enjoyable than most others. The theatre had a somewhat small crowd as well, maybe about 10 or so people. Just like I like it, the crowd actually reacted to a few things going on during the movie--like myself(got a couple of laughs out of them with my random outbursts)--and we would give out a quick "HAHA!" or a "WOAH!" or something during most of the battle scenes, as well as laugh at practically all of the jokes. We also had quite a riot during the blooper reel, which--btw--was absolute genius.(Aw, Kate Higgins was pregnant. How sweet.)

Regaining my manly composure, we even went so far a to all stand up and give a good round of applause for the movie after it had finished. After, as I always do when I go to see an anime movie, I socialized with a few of the people at who had seen the movie--actually spent a few minutes with these couple of dudes who were clearly huge fans, seeing as they even had the freakin' T-shirts. xD. It was a totally awesome experience, as usual, made all the better by the audience I was pleasured to be accompanied by.

Sound and picture were totally perfect, by the way--I was beyond blown away by the utter immensity of the sound quality. Ear-shattering, but in the best way possible. O.o

Damn it....when the hell is this thing comin' on DVD?!
