Essay Hook History?

Im doing an essay on colonial mens clothing during the 1800's, and i need a good hook. So far this is my hook:
During the harsh years of reconstruction, men have finally took fit clothing to match their level on society. I highly dislike this hook and I need a better one. Suggestions please? Thank You
 
yea that is really boring. a hook is intended to "hook" the readers attention. just keep thinking
