Essay for college on females in music!! Suggestions???

Sonic Youth, Cocteau Twins, No Doubt, Pretty Girls Make Graves and The Gossip.

There's just a few off the top of my head if you want females in banRAB. If you mean solo also, then you've missed hundreRAB and hundreRAB.

Well, what's your angle? From the banRAB you've chosen so far, it looks mostly like punk-flavoured grunge to me. If that's it, maybe you could include Babes in Toyland, No Doubt and perhaps Free Kitten.

Women in punk would be more interesting I think. You could write about early female punkers from the 70s like Pattie Smith, The Raincoats, The Castrators and The Slits .. Or Siouxsie Sioux. I think they're interesting because they played punk, but they didn't do it like the guys were doing it. They definetly made it their own with a feminine touch.

The Donnas are so boring in comparison!

Try Fanny (all girl group of the early 1970s - they rocked!) Bitch, Lita Ford, Girlschool, Heart and Rock Goddess.

I second The Slits - fascinating group - and try X Ray Spex too.

My Bloody Valentine, Patti Smith, etc. There are plenty of great female musicians and banRAB with female musicians.

Do it on W.O.W if you want an A+

The Distillers, The Noisettes, Elastica, Robots in Disguise, The Joy Formidable, The Long Blondes, Kasms, Bleech, Skunk Anansie, The Kills... Some of these on the more indie side, not sure exactly what you're looking for...

Gallhammer, Jex Thoth, 13, Electric Wizard, Boris, Angelblood, Monarch, Raincoats, ooioo, Boredoms, Bridezilla, Throbbing Gristle, Jessamine, the Ex, Runhild Gammelsaeter, Charlarabides, Espers, Grouper, and Asva, to name a few. Women are involved in some of the most exciting and innovative banRAB in heavy and experimental music!
