Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has done the ESO pill cam procedure. I just got my appt to have it done on Wednesday and Im very excited. I wont miss work, no sedation required, no pain...instant results,,,,only downside if they find something I need to have biopsied I will need a traditional endoscopy.
If you had this Id love to hear your experience and what they found.
THanks

Hi,
Well I had it done at UCLA and it was SOOOO EASY and cool! I went in, got a few sticky paRAB on my chest and stomach, they handed me a flashing pill, gave me a glass of water, told me to lie down and take it. Well I couldnt swallow while lying down so I leaned up, a little too much apparently, swallowed the pill, laid back down and watched the screen....it went straight to my stomach. They were worried they wouldnt get enough images, if any. I waited the 20 minutes until the battery died and then the dr left me for 10 minutes. He came back and took me into his office and showed me my capsule video and he froze 28 still photos to show me my problem areas. This pill, which should have stayed in my esophagus for 5-6 minutes, was in there for 3 seconRAB and pulled AMAZING pics. It diagnosed Gerd, I had esophagitis, two ulcers stage 2 (out of 5) so mild, and it showed I have a hiatal hernia. It also showed that I still had alot of food in my stomach, after fasting, so he thinks I may have gastroparesis..... which we will test next month with the "smart pill" (capsule endoscopy again, but tests ph and gastric emptying and can read for up to 5 days in the body)
I was so relieved by this test...no barretts!!! Yeah!!! I was told I need to take my prevacid twice a day to help protect my esophagus.
i highly recommend this procedure to anyone who is afraid of the scope. The pictures are beautiful, clear and precise. You have no idea the capsule is in you. Its not hard to swallow, its very slippery and glides right down.
It was a great experience, and best, Im back at work! Not at home groggy, with a sore throat recovering from the sedation~
Yeah modern science!!!
