Hi All,

First time posting here and in need of help. I purchased a 9241 PVR a few days ago. I set it up using 2 sw switches(1 was an sw21, the other a sw42). Unit worked great for 2 days, then i got the error 122 message. The ird powers up, tries to find signal, then immediately moves to error code 122. " An internal communications failure has been detected. Press "select" on your remote control to reset your receiver. For technical assistance, please select help."

If I press select, the receiver reboots but the same thing happens. If I select help, it just tells me to call bell.

My questions are as follows:

1) IS the unit pooched?
2) IS the problem that i am using an sw21 and sw42 switch?
3) What exactly does that error code mean?

I tired each of the 2 lines coming in to my 6131 ird and did a check switch each time. Both times my sat signal was verified(i.e. got 82, 92 signal)

Any advice would be helpful.

Also, I tried to find a link to error codes and what they mean but was unable to locate any. Can someone pass a link along.

Thanks

I think you should look over the Installation Thread, using only 1 SW21 cannot be correct at all.

So do you guys think it is because i am using 1 sw21 switch and the other switch is sw42?
I get this error messge even if i poiwer the unit up without connect a sat feed.

Refresh my memory, what is Error Code 122.? (Sorry, just re-read your OP)

Did you look at the Installation Thread.? You will not find a single setup with only 1 x SW21 to feed a 9241, it just does not make any sense at all.

Try connecting it with 2 feeds from the SW24, see if that helps.

Also, might be worth doing some of the Diagnostic stuff too, including re-formatting the Drive.

Pinza,

I did read your posts. I am not just trying to use an sw21 switch
I have 2 switches, one is an sw 21, the other says sw21x on it, but when I scan 82 and 91, it verifies the signal on each but says the switch is sw42.
Anyway, each feed from the switch works fine with my 6131 ird.
If I connect either line separately to my pvr, it tries to grab the signal, then immediately gives me the error 122 message. If I connect both, same thing happens. If I just power the unit up without any satellite feed, I get the error 122 message.

I have an sw44 switch coimng soon and will hook it up as per installation picutres I've seen in the installation section. If I get the error 122 message again, then I am guessing the receiver is pooched.

Pinza, you said to try running diagnostics, but I am not even able to get into the menu to try that so I guess that is not an option.

Does anyone know where I can find what the various error codes mean. I tried searching in forums but can't seem to find them.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

2di4u, Pinza installs Bell for a living (I think?) so I would probably listen to his/her advice.

Other than that

"Symptom
Error 122

Cause
This message occurs when the internal Smart Card has an error. The Smart Card number may be entered wrong on the account.

Prevention
Verify the Smart Card numbers are correct when activating a receiver.

Troubleshooting
Please contact us for additional assistance."

That is for Dish Network anyway

An SW21x has never been needed on Bell TV and is not the right type of switch for your setup, no point saying where it is used, you can use Google for that.

Last suggestion, is to remove ALL inputs from the receiver, run a "Check Switch" to return that part of the receiver to a default state, then after it fails, connect up the cables from the SW21's (NOT SW21x) or from an SW44 and run the "Check Switch" again. If you cannot run a "Check Switch" or get into the Menu, call Bell and get the thing replaced.

Thanks for the suggestion Pinza. You wrote "Last suggestion, is to remove ALL inputs from the receiver, run a "Check Switch" to return that part of the receiver to a default state"

When I try to power the receiver up without any feeds coming to the receiver, I still can't get to menu. It immediately tries to grab a signal(Doing check 1 of 1) and then reverts to the error 122 code.

Once my sw44 switch comes in I will hook each line up directly as per the instructions pictures I've seen on this site. If I get the same message, I will call Bell.

I really appreciate the time and effort of those who have tried to help me out. Thanks.

If you cannot even get into the Menu with no connections, don't waste your time waiting for the SW44, call Bell now, your receiver is pooched.
