Eraserhead

WTF? Has anyone else seen this and did they understand it? I'm sure the entire production team were on drugs! It's supposed to really scary but looked a lot like unintelligible nonsense to me. Oh and the guy's hair made me LOL.
I think it's called 'Eraserhead' because his hair sticks straight up and looks a bit like the rubber on a pencil!:D

I haven't seen it yet but it's on my 'to watch' list. Unintelligible weirdness is right up my street.:D

I'm not surprised you didn't understand it. David Lynch is known for mind screws. Nothing of his makes much sense.

Well, no wonder you didn't like it, if you expected it to be scary.

It is patently not a horror movie. True, it does have some dark and sinister imagery...but it's a movie that is very hard to classify.

Oi! I'll give you 'txt spk generation'. Just because the teenagers you see in the news are incapable of stringing a sentence together or appreciating anything more complex than Soulja Boy doesn't mean that that's what we're all like in real life.

How old is the OP, anyway? She (assuming it's a she, anyway) could be 45 for all we know.

Just watched it (bit late at night, I know). The CGI was very well done for that time period, I must say.

Is it weird that I wanted to cry when he
started to kill the baby and it was visibly scared? I found that thing quite cute in a way, and I felt a bit sorry for it- Mary clearly didn't want it at all.
I jumped out of my skin when Henry was standing by the door and
his head was momentarily replaced by the baby's
, though.

CGI, mid 1970s    :p :D

No it isn't. That's one of Lynch's tropes - you invest emotionally over and above the film's 'main' characters, who in traditional linear narrative are meant to be the subject of audience identification.

Yes it was cute, in a 'Godzuki' out of the old 80s Godzilla kiRAB cartoon series way. Lynch won't reveal how the effects were done, and the baby is quite startlingly 'human' both physically and emotionally (in IMO delibarate contrast to the human protagonists).

My comment appears to be giving a heart attack. I'm sorry- I don't speak Jargon very well.

I really liked the backing music and sound effects, as well. Very atmospheric without being over the top.

Saw this over 25 years ago on VHS and I can still remember the imagery. It's probably the closest to my weird dreams\nightmares that I've seen captured on film:D
