Anyone seen it?

I went yesterday and well it was shit. The acting from Speleer was cheesey, the dialogue came across as over the top and even worse a talking fooking Dragon voiced by Rachel Weiz.

It's a complete rip off of Lord Of The Rings, the in film CGI looked flaky, actors looked wooden and Irons who happens to be a very competent actor is under used.

Shameful!

While I agree it has similarities to lord of the ring and other fantasy's, nearly all fantasy books nowadays, also, 99% of reviews (and I concur) have said the CGI was the really good thing about it, as well as Rachel Weisz doing its voice.

I must say though it's more dissapointing for me because they changed some of the parts of the book which I felt were important, but then I blame the author for that as he could have bartered for a role in the cript/casting, but just sold out to the film makers. I did enjoy the books very much though.

I think DVD's a good option, but I saw it it purely because of it's link with the books, and because of the reviews great opinions on the special effects, I thought Saphira on the big screen was superb.

I took my son to see this yesterday.
Haven't read the books yet.

I quite liked it. It's really easy for people to compare any fantasy work with Lord Of The Rings, there are similarities but there are also big differences.

LOTR was such a large story that it covered many areas. If you look at Christopher Paolini's entry on Wiki you'll see that LOTR is citied as an influence - as is Beowulf, Norse mythology, Philip Pullman, Star Wars, etc. Some shared influences with Tolkein & some after.

I actually got more of a Star Wars vibe from the movie - despite the obvious differences.

one more thing i would add is that I think people who haven't read the books should go and see it more because on its own its a good fantasy movie, It's only when you compare it to the books it becomes unsatisfactory.

I read the first book, and on the whole I loved it (apart from that stupid Arya, who is good at everything. IMO that is the worst mistake you can make when writing a novel- making a perfect character), so then I was excited when the 2nd book came out. Snore... I never even made it to the end!

Definitely won't be going to see the film, after seeing the trailers.

Sorry you didn't like the second book, I thought it was brilliant. So interesting to see the way roran's character develops as well as the twist in it.

If I remember correctly, the author was only 12 when he wrote the book. You can't expect too much originality in writing from a 12 year old, particularly when these type of books mostly always follow the same conventions and copy-and-paste components.

He was 15 when he started the book, I remember marvelling at that when I read it about 2 years ago. Now I realise he has a long way to go with characterisation!

I read a story on Digg that the film was so bad that it made one 11 year old fan of the books actually cry in frustration. :D

From the trailer it certainly looks very cheesy. I think i'll stick with the books; they're not bad, although they don't make it into my "keepers" pile.

I am taking my sister's two oldest (9 and 6) to see it the day before their Christmas hols end (so Tuesday). I haven't heard anything good about it (apart from the CGI and the baby Saphira just looks cute), so I will just separate my two views, the book and the movie will be like the Harry Potter world - two separate entities...that way I can watch one and read the other without properly connecting them.

Hopefully the film will amuse the children enough that they will keep quiet on the 50 min train journey home!

i read the book before i went to see this, and i must say the film in its self was rushed but also totally wrong. You expect a few differences from book to film but entire story plots were missing and they changed the whole thing! i was not impressed at all.

i would not recomend watching this if you have read the book as you will be greatly displeased.
