Equipment protection

I just ordered a new Pearl and am debating adding equipment protection.

My question is how easy is it to file a claim? What have been the experiences when having to file a claim?

I see there are other independent providers of insurance for around $50 a year vs. $72 through T-Mobile. Anybody have experiences with those?

This winter for the first time in nine years of having a cell phone, I lost it in the snow. Fortunately I had another CDMA to use. Not that I'm switching to T-mobile, if my Pearl goes, I will not have a "no cost" backup.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ I have equipment protection thru TMobile and replacement devices have only cost me $15 for shipping. However, when I wanted to upgrade my sidekick 2 to a sidekick 3, they wanted me to pay $110 because I was also using my sim card in my Pearl. I ended up buying my SK3 out of pocket on my own.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ Oh and they also said that since my SK2 was out of warranty, I had to pay. I still don't think it was cause I had it replaced in February 2006 from another SK2 that was having problems, and it was a year ago this past February that the second SK2 malfunctioned. I thought I had time. And before anyone asks, no I don't have the original receipt from the first SK2 LOL
