Equilibrium - surprisingly good movie!

Caught this on Sky Movies last night.

I actually really enjoyed it. None of the ideas it touches on are particularly original (future world where human emotions are supressed by state-controlled drugs), but it was still very well done.

Wonder why it didn't do that well at the box office.

And why so many British actors? I'm not used to seeing Brits in sci-fi!!!

It did seem a rather long film whan I saw it.
Unfortunately, films that dabble with humans trying to break away from routine are two - a - penny. Brazil , Matrix, Altered States, Gattaca, just to name a few, and so they really do have to stand out to be noticed, and play the trailer/promotion game if they wish to succeed at the box office.

I am looking forward to Sky Captain later this month though, and they havent really pushed it to date

An indulgent repost of a review from my website (Oct 2003) - it pretty much sums up my feelings on the film:

Harsh? Perhaps, but I still stand by it - rent Gattaca instead ;)
