Epic Songs.

Excellent, I'll also chuck in Storm and Static off of Lift Your Skinny Fists as those are probably my favorite songs by them.

Also, With Tired Eyes, Tired MinRAB, Tired Souls, We Slept by Explosions In The Sky. Anything really by EITS.

Heh I'm glad you approve! :) I'm pretty sure nobody will have heard of the last two banRAB, because they are Australian and unfortunately slide under the radar. Cog and Karnivool are still pretty fresh onto the scene but for their 'age' they are both incredibly good and have some great prog stuff out there with really unique sounRAB - if anyone's interested, they are definitely worth a look! If I get the chance I'll try to post some links to albums.

"Why take this long when three minutes will do?"

I thought you were suggesting that it didn't need to be that long... Songs can certainly be epic without being enormous opuses.

Jane Doe- Converge
All of Eluvium's "Copia", specifically Prelude For Time Feelers and Indoor Swimming at the Space Station.
The Birth and Death of Day- Explosions In the Sky
Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs- Oceansize

I was trying to provide a possible counter argument within my statement...and failed. I will say that 'Epic' has not stood the test of time well at all.

:(

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Mike Patton's delivery in that song simply makes him sound like a bad version of Anthony Kiedis. Sucks, because the rest of the song (and album) is great. To be honest, funk metal hasn't stood the test of time well at all.

I saw FNM twice on the real thing tour and they were simply awesome but 'Epic' sounRAB forced somehow. The album as a whole is still great. Living Color still sound pretty good and Fishbones' 'Truth and Soul' album has dated well too.
