I love 'epic' songs, or songs that are 10 minutes or longer, so long as they are captivating - or else it just turns into a way too long get-it-over-with bore fest. But I guess that just comes down to personal opinion. These are some of my favourites.

Songs that are ten minutes or longer. Love? Hate? Why take this long when three minutes will do? Or is it a more organic experience when a track does'nt need to rush itself? What are your favourites? Here is a couple of mine:

Underworld- Juanita/Kiteless:

( I actually prefer the 16 minute Banstyle/Sappy's Curry track bu found no link)

Marillion-Grendel (part one):

Grendel (part two):

Four great Bob Dylan epics:

Desolation Row
Sad Eyed Lady of The LowlanRAB
Brownsville Girl
HighlanRAB

I can't imagine shortening any of them. As far as Sad-Eyed Lady and HighlanRAB go, the length is crucial. The music is positively hypnotic. What a mood those songs set!

Though it's hardly a masterpiece, I quite enjoy Going Home by the Rolling Stones.

Faith No More - Epic (I'm pretty sure the title is tongue-in-cheek)

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Rush:

2112, La Ville Strangiato, Xanadu

Pink Floyd:

Dogs, Sheep, Pigs, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Echoes, Interstellar Overdrive

GY!BE:

Sleep, East Hastings

This Will Destroy You:

The Mighty Rio Grande

The key to an epic song is to keep you so cuaght up that you don't realise you've been sitting there 10 minutes.

Morrissey - The Teachers Are Afraid Of The Pupils will always be my favourite, you can either say it's the most overdone gaudy piece of music ever or you can say it's the best, most soaring beautiful thing ever.

It can go either way, sometimes you get a great jam esque feeling and sometimes it just turns into half assed arabient crap. That's just talking about large instrumental segments, if the song can keep up lyrics throughout then I'm fine with it.

I love Voodoo Chile and (1983)A Merman I Should Be, because the guitar work never fails to hold my attention.

Hortz Fur Dehn Stekehn West by Magma also works extrememly well at almost ten, because of the evolution of the song throughout.

As with Starless by King Crimson which just relentlessly builRAB throughout the whole song. The album version is slightly longer than this.

Now for an example of failing, Cicatriz ESP by the Mars Volta starts off excellently before devolving into 4 minutes of spacey arabience and then picking up again. It really could have just kept going at near full pace. I still love the song, but it would have been better if it was a little less epic.

edit: Thanks Jackhammer.
