EPG has Little or no Info

When the unit comes back after being totally powered down via a timer, is it "on" or "off"?
 
Thanks dosborne. More good info of which I wasn't aware. Thing is, I can't even seem to go ahead an hour or two. I think I will turn it off tonight when I hit the sheets, and see what happens in the morn'. Cheers for all the info', folks.
 
If it is an input, there would be a menu item on the TV and you'd have to select "input/video 1" or something similar with the TV. It would not likely "grab" the signal on it's own. You may wish to check the operating manual, or run through the user menus to see if there is an input selection option or not...
 
This is standard with Bell's older receivers. My 6000 (similar vintage as the 2700) was the same way. As channels were added, the guide info kept shrinking until it was only 2-3 hours. Scrolling ahead and then up and down for a couple of minutes will allow more guide info to be loaded. It's terribly slow compared to newer receivers or PVRs though.
 
Hey guys, I know I asked once, but since a couple of you are around . . . isn't there supposed to be a light on when it's in standby mode? When I hit the power button on the remote I see no lights on the unit, and the telly is but white snow. I assume this means it's powered down. So how do I put the bugger in standby mode?
 
A "TV/Video" button would be my guess based on the age. :)


Technically, the guide info (data) was growing rather than shrinking :) The issue, as stated previously in the thread, is that there is limited memory in these units and it fills up. When full, if you scroll ahead/back, then it must download the segment of EPG you are interested in.

The 2700 is approaching ten years in the field and much has changed since its launch.
 
You are referring specifically to sat receivers I guess, as I download much that's instantaneous from my computer. :p
 
Try downloading a few GB of files to your computer (or use a slow connection like the STB has) and see if that's instantaneous or not. ;)
 
That's true. The software updates take up a lot more room, as time goes by, and the older models simply don't have enough memory to do what the current models can.
 
There may be no indication of standby - there often is not for various devices. Have you tried connecting the STB to the TV via composite or S-video, along with analogue audio cables? That would give you a better picture, stereo sound instead of mono and you may get the message that Pinza mentioned earlier. RF-coax is the worst connection.

Yep, you got me. Har! What I actually meant is that it starts instantaneously. D'oh.
 
This is a bedroom set-up. 2700, 19 in telly, and stereo output to a wee blaster on a shelf. No abilities for any other video input to this telly.
 
Ha ha. Out of context, many statements can be distorted to look wrong. ;) I meant the amount of guide info on any one channel shrank. AKA the length of time for which advance info was available, resulting in 'no info' when scrolling ahead.
 
More often than not lately, the guide on my old 2700 shows "Info not available" on the guide or "No description avaiable..." when checking on a particular program. I have software version E606. Did I miss an upgrade or is everyone having this problem?
 
Wow, must be a pretty old TV. Almost every TV made in the past 20+ years or so had the composite (yellow) connector somewhere (front, side, back). It's a colour TV right? ;)
 
Bought in 2000, and the only yellow port is a video out on the front, along with a single (mono) audio out. There, now aren't you happy that even you learned something today?:p
 
I noticed that the EPG on my 4700 was limited to only two or three hours right after the last card swap. I'm guessing that the more complex N3 encryption needs more memory, and the EPG suffers as a result. After the last firmware upgrade it got better, but still not like it was before.

I ended up retiring my 4700 because of this and other nagging issues. I found a Dishpro IR-to-UHF remote kit that replaced the functionality of the 4700's UHF remote.
