Entering an unlock code (N80)

Hi there! I'm new here....and starting off with whats probably a stupid question

The guy i brought my n80 off got the unlock code today, but every time i enter it I'm getting a code error!

Can I just confirm that this is the correct process:

1. Press # (pound)
2. Press * (star) three times = P
3. Press * (star) four times = W
4. Press * (star) twice = +
5. enter code
6. Press * (star) twice = +
7. Press 1 (one) = 1
8. Press # (pound), phone should display "SIM Restriction Off"

And should I be doing this without a SIM card in the phone, or should I put my O2 in the phone and then enter the code? (Does it make a difference?)

Many thanks!

Newer Nokia Phones (Like the N80) do NOT have a lock code at all.

You'll have to take it to a Nokia service center to unlock it. They physically open up the N80 to do so, which voids the warranty.

pazman2k,

Apparently you have got the WRONG code. At this time, for a carrier-locked BB5 generation Nokia model like N80, only the carrier can provide the code. Where do you obtain your code? Do not be tricked by "someone" on eBay or some "code calculator" for DCT-4 generation models.

To enter the code, you simply put any SIM card other than the one from the carrier which locks your N80. It will prompt for the code when boots up.

skypine27,

Actually, the BB5 does have lock code allowed to be entered by end-user. Just that no concrete proof - even the legendary Dejan - showing a 3rd party way. Only Nokia and the carriers can provide the correct code for sure.
