Hey guys,

This is new to me. I am having some complications. Where to start i don't know. I saw a friend die of a massive heart attack in work (build up of calcium over 40 years and a bit broke of and went to the heart well basically sliced an artery in half). After this i started to take panic attacks which i have never taken before in the 27 then years of my life. I seen 5 doctors including my own GP who runs the practice who said i had tonsilitis in regarRAB to my dizzy spells sitting down and standing up and also explained the shortness of breath. A paramedic in the arabulance was able to tell it was panic attacks cause of the way i was sitting in my bedroom and that i told him my fists clinched when it took these dizzy spells. I got a new GP in my practice who is female and has been brilliant. I was having a dry cough and some slight chest pains when i went to see her and she prescribed me an inhaler because of the pollen (i am asthmatic) which did not ease the dry cough. I went back to her and she gave me a stronger one (this eased the cough and it hasn't been back since) however i have started to experience the chest pains and went back to her with this. she advised on a blood test, however there had already been 4 blood tests that came back clear and an ECG that came back clear, but she decided on another blood test cause of my family history (heart condition on my daRAB side). This came back clear however my blood pressure was high which had been twice (baring in mind i had walk for almost an hour and clirab stairs to the 3rd floor). At this stage i was then complaining about my throat as it was going horse and i was having to clear my throat on a regular basis even though there was nothing to clear. My GP had referred me to the city hospital in belfast for a blood pressure machine to monitor my blood pressure for 24 hours and also ENT for my throat as she thought there may have been a pulp in my vocal chorRAB this was after a month of monitoring and lowering my tone of voice. Blood pressure is fine i went to ENT and had a camera put up my nose to find some redness around my throat so doctor suggested it was acid reflux and prescribed me some drugs (can't remeraber the name of them but they began with N). Well bad news is they never worked its still here and i am getting more pains around my chest, ribs, back and lungs and sometimes my lower abdomen. My throat has gotten worse and my breathen when i am awake is a struggle and when i am sleeping wakes my girlfriend up because she thinks i have stopped breathing. This is a longggg story and i hope i ain't boring anyone. I have ruled out stress cause my panic attacks after the first few weeks i got over after seeing my friend die. My symptons are getting worse not better. I just need someone to tell me what this is and give me drugs to get rid of it so i can go back to a normal life. I am afraid of this being to late because serveral doctors where not able to tell even A&E. I am due for another appointment for ENT but i may not beable to wait that long i may have to make another appointment for my GP. I will add 1 extra bit to this. My apartment has been suffering some condensation (mould) and we have just got a de-humidifier. I have asthma. Is this related to my symptons and should i tell my GP and ENT? I don't also suffer from heart burn and neither do i feel ANY kind of acid coming from my stomach up to my throat. ENT doctor advised that this was happening and cells where being burnt by the acid which is where i was feeling the sensation of dryness and horseness at the back of my throat.

Hi, coolsnakeman. I'll respond to what I think it is that you're asking. Yes, you can have acid reflux and not feel any heartburn or feel the acid coming up. Some people are aware that acid is coming up but many (like me) don't have "classic" symptoms" - no heartburn, no sour taste in mouth. My primary symptoms were a persistent sore mouth, sore throat, chest pressure, and chest pain. I never guessed it was all related until an ENT scoped my throat and introduced me to LPR. I do not have asthma, but LPR can aggravate asthma because, in working its way into your throat area, acid can also be aspirated into your lungs. There are people here on this message board who have experienced this and can speak to it. Maybe they'll check in.

As far as the drugs not working, how long did you give it? You were probably prescribed a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) - maybe Nexium? PPIs do not work immediately. You have to give them time. My ENT said to give it a solid month to expect to feel better, and it often takes upwarRAB of six months to feel "healed," depending on how much acid damage is present. I've been on omeprazole (Prilosec) for two months and, while I do not yet feel anywhere near back to "normal," I am feeling better week by week. My chest still hurts a little and my throat also sometimes feels sore, but it is nothing like it was.

Good luck!

I am with you. Yeah it was nexium that i was prescribed and there was 28 in a box i was given 2 boxes to take 2 a day. I am waiting word back from ENT for a check up but it has been a least a month now since i have stopped taking the tablets and my symptons have gotten worse rather than gradually better. I am clearing my throat more often and have only really began to start feeling a sore throat (not hard to swallow). This is also having an effect on my ear as it is a little sore appears to be only the left ear (i suffer ear infections). I am awaiting the presence of a new born baby (my own) so i will be making another appointment for my GP after the baby is born. It could be acid reflux but i am not 100% convinced that it is. My mum does have the condition herself and is on tablets the rest of her life however when i asked about it effecting her breathing she said it didn't.
