I generally don't have a problem with English dubs of opening songs, but sometimes it's actually more difficult for me to decipher the English lyrics than it is for me to decipher the Japanese lyrics. I don't know if the singers aren't enunciating well or what, but FUNi's One Piece songs require several listens by me before I can figure out what the hell they're trying to say.
One thing I wish more companies would do, though, is include the opening credits along with the animation. They're just as much a part of the opening as the animation itself, and in many cases, the animation is created to fit around the credits that'll be put in later. Seeing a giant empty space on the screen because FUNi couldn't bother to type up the credits and put them there is really, really distracting for me.
Yeah, having clean openings and endings is nice...but that's what DVD extras are for
