English Grammar Question?
My Test Question:

I have to work ______ than I expected.
a. little b. less

I wrote B, but my teacher told me that A is correct answer . . . But she is unable to explain why the answer A is correct.

How can tell me which answer is Correct and why?

this is one of those stupid school questions that even the teacher doesn't know why it's true so they shouldn't be using it. It is because little is being used as adverb. it is only correct in the context of what you were learning at school no one would ever use it that way cuz it sounds dumb.
examples
14.not at all (used before a verb): He little knows what awaits him.
15. in only a small amount or degree; not much; slightly: a little known work of art; little better than a previous effort.
16. seldom; rarely; infrequently: We see each other very little.

If you plugged the word less into those sentences it would sound just as dumb. they should have given a better example. If i were a teacher i would have scratched that question after the whole class got it wrong and because some grammar examples are way out of date. things change including grammar and word meanings. don't get hung up on questions like that school is full of them.
