I have to choose which major to pursue this week. I'm stuck between engineering (I will choose my specific engineering program at a later time) or Economics / Finance. Here is my dilemma.
1. I'm a business minded person. I've actually operated a business and plan to in the future but being in NY, I've heard that we're flooded with biz majors. When I look at job ads, I see a lot for businesses though and the salaries are pretty high.
2. I want to join the military as an Officer and technical degrees stand out. This is making me want to do engineering even more, especially since I'm into tech/science stuff.
3. I don't see nearly as many engineering jobs in NY/NJ as I do for finance.
4. I've heard that a lot of engineering/tech jobs are now going to Visa holders, being outsourced, or just plain ol being downsized.
I've heard that if I actually graduate with an engineering degree, from a decent school, most top graduate schools would accept me and let me get a masters in Finance, Economics, or what have you. Is this accurate? This could make me lean towards engineering.
Just need some help. Which one is better overall, as far as job prospects, and income.
