First id like to say i need a few things from the people answering this:
1. DETAILED information not references to manuals which assume how much you know.
2. follow up information because im here when you answer and i may need additional help depending on if i do what you suggest right then and there.
3. if you know the issue atleast try to send a letter to my e mail about it.
ISSUE:
The timing. every time i try to turn the engine on im now getting flames from the carb. i had it in time, i adjusted the valves i still got backfire from the carb but i did get a rumble. my problems probally got worse after trying to adjust the dsitributer by hand. i got way worser backfire. i did how ever get a rumble from the engine indicating it wanted to start. after all that i turn the crank by hand, lined the timing marks up put the distributer on and put spark plug wire 1 over the hole thing that was right above were it pointed, then put the other wires on. it did the same thing. i thought maybe i was possibly 180 degrees off so after that failed i turned the crank by hand again and tried to set everything back up as b4 based on the new position the point was pointing to. same thing. to add to the confusion the timing marks on the harmonic balancer will either not line back up after i turn the engine over by key or will end up in the exact opiside direction of the marks used to mark 60 degree points. the timing mark on the block always ends up in between the marks exactly. What does this mean?
In regards to what the engine is, the distributer is from a 1983 dodge ram b150 slant six 304 i believe. the valve cover said 304. this new engine is from a slant six from a 1976-80 Plymith volare/Dodge Aspen. I'm not sure what to make of any of this. Dont direct me to guides because i use one and those dont provide specific problem solving.. if there is a slant six from the volare/dodge aspen that wouldnt accept this distributer please state that. id like to do this one step at a time and i would like to know what to check for for each step to make sure its safe to go to the next.
