Engine swaps for a 2002 dodge ram?

I have a 2002 dodge quadcab with a 4.7l engine. will an older 318, 360, 440.... carb motors bolt up to the trans / motor mounts with no or a few mods?
Are the older 360 engine blocks different than newer ones? Will it not bolt up to the newer tranny?
Also: Why would i need to install any of the eng sensors on the carb engine? Couldn't I just use an after market 1 wire hook up distributor?
My main problem is the higher than normal price to rebuild the 4.7l engine
 
no not on that one,there will be more than a few mods to make on it before either of those engines would work in it,best thing to do is replace it with another 4.7 unless you want to get in to a lot of headaches with it,if you got to a carb,d engine there will be a lot of headache with it,the reason i know this a customer of mine has tried this and know i get to straiten out his mess of wiring,good luck. EDIT if i were you id go for a good used engine before i attempted to do that swap,its a lot cheaper,good luck.
