Engine Swap in my 2005 Mazda RX8?

I have a 2005 Mazda RX8, after many hardships with flooding I have decided to do an engine swap. My friend is a highly skilled mechanic and has volunteered to do the job at his garage "for kicks". The engine is a Ford 302 5.0 liter engine with a 5 speed. Is this a good choice or should I use another type of engine? (Must be V8)

Why must it be a V8?

You started with a rotary engine. It's not like going to a V6, or even an inline 4 would be a downgrade.

Swap the engine if you want/can. It'll be illegal, pointless, and a total waste your time and money.

But do it if you want.

Rotary engines suck. If rotary engines were better than piston engines, then every car today would have a rotary engine. You should have been thinking this when you bought your RX8. I would swap in a GM LSJ ecotec supercharged engine. 2.0l, up to 300hp + with performance supercharger pullys. It will be half the weight of the 302 engine, half the price, and the car will handle better. If you put the 302 in your RX8 the engine has an iron block. This is the equilavent of driving your car now with a blue wale strapped on top of the hood.
