The engine light has been on in my car for the last 3 wks. I took it to Sears auto shop to have the oil changed, briefly mentioned the light, and afterwards the light was still on. I have proceeded to drive my car (2003 Toyota Corolla) since I figured Sears would have noticed any big problems. I am having my car looked at in 5 days, when I have time, and was wondering what could be a likely cause of my engine light coming on. My car is currently at 90,000 miles and I heard that the engine light has to do with the emissions but it is safe to drive until I can get it fixed. A service center told me it would cost $85 just for a diagnosis. What do you think might be wrong and how much would this possible problem cost to fix? :/

Sometimes that light just means scheduled maintenance is due.
At 90,000 this is the most likely cause. It's a 'big service` number.
Check your Owners Manual. There is likely a way to 'key' the light off.
If it comes back on, there's a problem that needs to be looked at.

My wife has the same problem, she was told it could be her gas cap,I'm about to replace that and also when ever you stop to get gas make sure that the gas attendant tightens your cap,it must "click" three or mere times.Hope that helps you.

My engine light came on in my Toyota a week after i bought it and it's still on and that was 2 1/2 years ago ...not 1 problem yet. I wouldn't worry if it's running right.
