Engagement Party Photography?

So my friend's sister is getting engaged and she asked me to take come take photos. Since I'm getting paid, I want to make sure they get very good photos. I don't feel right about taking the money, but anyway, what would I need to buy for a low-lighting setting? It will be indoors. Also, are there any fast portrait (zoom) lenses for under 250?

I currently own a Canon 40D, 18-55 kit lens, and 50MM f1.8 prime lens.

Get the Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash, and a Gary Fong Lightsphere for diffusion. There are no fast portrait/zoom lenses under $250.

Not to be rude, but it doesn't seem like you quite know what you're doing yet... so I highly advise you to NOT charge them, and just use this opportunity for practice.
