I'm sure Darlton read a lot of the forums. That's why they made sure the Jate ending wasn't left arabiguous even though Jack died, and why they've said stuff since the finale about how they gave us the ending and then the ending-ending and that was it as far as they were concerned.

It still makes me laugh that they said the only thing about the ending that they would change in retrospect is that they wouldn't have shown the wreckage right at the end. :lol:
