End the Drug War

There will always be poverty. From a libertarian perspective, the best chance to raise the largest number of people out of the abject poverty that causes massive death by disease and malnutrition is capitalism and free markets. The policies DE mentioned are in line with that, so I'm not sure why you had an issue.
 
What does insurance have to do with recreation? The feds need to shift focus to real crime. They got to ease up when California passes them by. Maybe at that point Obama will see some light and do the right thing for a change.

You are so moronic.

To prove your case, you would need to bring up several studies that showed your position to be correct. So how about you start listing all the studies you've come across that shows that legalising drugs in western countries has increased drug use, and making them illegal has decreased usage. Once you do that, I'll see if I can find an example of a westernized country reducing the restrictions on drugs, and whether drug usage has gone up, down, or remained about the same.

It is just my opinion if legalization occurs, and nobody can prove what'll happen. It just stands to reason that a large percentage of addicts wouldn't seek treatment on their own.



IMHO It's incredibly retarded to legalize cocaine and meth. And they are incredibly tempting drugs to young people. Once started on them the only limitations to how much the average addict would consume of them is how much money they can get to buy them. The amount used and number of addicts will undoubtedly skyrocket. On the other hand, when it comes to legal pastimes, people could always go see a movie instead of doing coke. What do you you think they'll choose.

The war on drugs is bullshit. Look at the wonderful gains our country accomplished through prohibition . That was an early lesson for the retards that chose to ignore the errors of our past.
 
I realize you are getting your data from two different statistical pools and neither quote offers much in the way of supporting information as to how the data was gathered, so it's entirely possible each little nugget is "true" in its own way. I just find it really fucking ironic that you argue one point with a "cocaine use is down" link and on the next page you argue a different point with a "cocaine use is up" link.

I'm not sure you're quite as convincing as you think you are.

Edit: And the best part, your DEA link doesn't even agree with itself. On the page you quoted it said 95% on the US population does not use drugs. Then, if you click the embedded link for point #1, they have a chart showing 93% of the US population does not use drugs. Holy shit, in the 2 seconds it took the page to load there was a 40% increase in the number of Americans taking drugs!

Furthermore, I was calling out DE for putting the two in the same category. If you consider taxation for a welfare system oppression, move to a country that doesn't offer a helping hand to those in need. That's not to say our current welfare system isn't able to be worked over for unnecessary benefit as it stands because again, our system's methodology is crap.

To get back on topic, ending the war on drugs would end a lot of poverty in America and throughout the world.

Without millins to billions of dollars of drug money going there, Mexico can only get worse. And the inner city will likely get worse too, because with drugs legal, people will be all the more consumed with getting money to buy them, and that means still MORE crime.
