Emo

One of my pet peeves is the label "emo". What a stupid thing to call someone, considering the fact that everyone has emotions. If people don't seem to have emotions, it's because they're hiding them for one reason or another.

Same with the music. I mean, c'mon, almost all music is an expression of emotions felt at the time of writing the song. Just because "emo" music sounds different doesn't mean it's any less of a genre.

Don't get me wrong, I can't really listen to most "emo" or "screamo" music, but I do like a little Motion City Soundtrack every now and then. Their new album sucks, though, IMO.

What is "emo" anyway? Who created that term? Someone told me that the people labeled that way created it themselves, including the musicians. I suppose if someone bases their MySpace page or whatever on how depressed they are, they could be called emo, but they fucking deserve it. If you're really depressed, that's something to tell a professional, not all your fake friends.

I guess true emo is just a desperate cry for attention?

I wanna be jakie O'nasis.. i wanna wear a pair of dark sunglasses.

Anyway... i believe the term "Emo" comes from emotional. Not so much emotions in general. If you use common sense and deductive reasoning... you will see that most people labled "emo" are more overtly emotional than most. And the "emo genre" is more emotional as well. It is usually sung by guys. Men seem to have this track record for not expressing their emotions very well and are aptly named pussys. But in this "PC" generation of ours... we cant lable a whole type of people as pussys or a whole genere of music.

I have just solved your whole conundrum... you owe me five bucks now.

Thank you, somebody, for actually getting the point of this thread and answering the question.

Can I pay you in Planter's Honey Roasted Peanuts?

I hate it when you actually have problems, and you're upset about something that's kind of hard to shove aside when you're with your "friends" and they all go, "Gosh, why are you being such a fucking emo?"

At times like those it seems like "emo" culture has ruined feelings for the rest of us.
