One of my pet peeves is the label "emo". What a stupid thing to call someone, considering the fact that everyone has emotions. If people don't seem to have emotions, it's because they're hiding them for one reason or another.
Same with the music. I mean, c'mon, almost all music is an expression of emotions felt at the time of writing the song. Just because "emo" music sounds different doesn't mean it's any less of a genre.
Don't get me wrong, I can't really listen to most "emo" or "screamo" music, but I do like a little Motion City Soundtrack every now and then. Their new album sucks, though, IMO.
What is "emo" anyway? Who created that term? Someone told me that the people labeled that way created it themselves, including the musicians. I suppose if someone bases their MySpace page or whatever on how depressed they are, they could be called emo, but they fucking deserve it. If you're really depressed, that's something to tell a professional, not all your fake friends.
I guess true emo is just a desperate cry for attention?
