Hi,Along with my back problems I have terrible pain in my left shoulder area(deltoid muscle)and pain on one side of my neck traveling down my arm.Sometimes ZI get tingling in my pinky and other times in my index and middle finger..I had an EMG (cervical) and asked the Dr. if there was anything that he saw.He said that he has to go over the test and my chart and will see me in 2 weeks to go over the results. When he was performing the test at times there was a terrible static noise when he stuck me with the needle in some areas. My question is this.Has anyone gotten the results right there after the test by the doctor?I figured they would be able to tell if there was a problem and tell you then..Let me know if anyone out there is familiar with the EMG test and procedure of results..Thanks

I got my results right away too. My referring doctor was my pain management doctor and he was the one that performed the test too. He told me what he was seeing and explained how everything worked. I got a play by play analysis. The static that you mentioned happened to me too. It happened when I tensed my muscle if I remeraber right. Hope this helps some. Waiting can be awful. :frown: Just think, maybe your answer is right around the corner!

Hi,

I've had very similar symptoms to yours over the past year, along with some terrible headaches from time to time. I've done epidurals, have you? I've done chiropractic, have you? I've done massage therapy too. I'm back to bad again and my surgeon thinks he can help me by fusing the two bad discs. I've not had an EMG though, wondering if I should ask?

Keep us posted and email me anytime.

Hi,

I didn't get the "actual" results that day, but the doctor told me I had neuropathy. Then got the results back and they came back normal. Figure that one out. Just cuz it comes back normal though, doesn't mean everything is ok, cuz my disk being ruptured was compressing on my nerve and it was definately there. Doctor said so, so did my feet, lol. I guess maybe the test means permanant. who knows.

I hated the test, I thought it was terrible and painful. But I heard that some thought it wasn't bad. I guess maybe it depenRAB on what part of your body your having it. My aunt had her hand done, so it was easy, mine went from my toes all the way up to my neck so that is probably why it was bad,

Good luck with who hasn't had the test yet, and don't worry about the results. They are what they are, and don't always believe he results, (doctors would love that statement, huh) you know your body, so trust that alone.

hugs and love,
dayna

I had the EMG done approx 1.5 wks ago and he gave me the results right away and was very explanitory during the test - I agree that the static you were hearing was you being tensed up and had nothing to do with the reading other than that he couldn't get a good one until you relaxed. The test is to measure nerve damage which thankfully mine was in the very beginning of it's stages. Good luck to you all!!! Connie

Tophatter,
I'm sorry I dont know, but I am having the same test july 9th and I am interested in the answer too!

hope for pain free moments

I've had numerous EMGs with different neurologists over the years and have never been given immediate results. The results were sent to the referring doctor and then I would see them and discuss the results.

It doesn't have to take two weeks for the results, though. Mine were usually available within a week, but I'm sure the doc would want to discuss the findings with you face to face to look at what options are suitable for the test results.

I'm not sure about that static you mention. Some of the "hits" are louder than others, but I dont' know what that indicates, if anything. Once you know which, if any, nerves are affected, they can look at what would work best to help you. Good luck!

Hi there,
I had an EMG done by a physiatrist and he explained the whole test and the results to me right then and there. i guess every doc is different.

I'm new to these boarRAB, so first I'll say hello to all, and I hope and pray we all find relief. As far as the EMG tests go, I've had 3 so far, and out of those 3, two gave me some sort of answer as to what they saw on the film. I hope this helps.

i had an EMG 5 yrs ago both done by a neurologist didn't get results right away but the first one showed paraspinal nerve damage @L-5 and the second one 7 months later was normal. the neurologist told me that the EMG is not always accurate

I was told by my doctor that the loud noises is your muscles contracting and/or spasms
